CANTON — Pat Shaughnessy scored an unassisted goal in the 59th minute to give SUNY Plattsburgh a 1-1 tie with St. Lawrence University in a nonconference men's soccer game Wednesday.

Sam DeMello scored an unassisted goal for the Saints (7-6-1 overall) in the 14th minute.

Andy Heighington made seven saves for the Cardinals (12-2-4), and Nate Goss-Woliner stopped nine shots for the Saints.

JCC MAKES REGIONALS

Jefferson Community College has qualified for the Region 3 Division III Tournament for the first time in eight years.

The Cannoneers (6-6-2) are the ninth seed. They will play a first-round game at No. 8 Alfred State on Saturday.

The winner of that game will play No. 1 Herkimer CCC (15-1-2) in the quarterfinals on Nov. 3.

Sara Woodward scored two late goals, including the game-winner in overtime, to lead the Red Dragons (17-0) in a nonconference game in Canton.

Woodward tied the game with a goal in the 66th minute.

Kelsey Berry and Caitlin Estes scored for the Saints (12-4).

CLARKSON WINS STATE TITLE

The Clarkson men's rugby club team captured the state D3 championship Sunday with an unbeaten season, automatically winning entrance into the National Small College Rugby Organization Tournament on Nov. 14.
