Fort Drum soldier dies of non-combat injuries

Spc. Robert K. Charlton, 22, of Malden, Mo., died Tuesday at Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany, after suffering non-combat related injuries while in Wardak, Afghanistan, last Friday, according to the Department of Defense.

He was most recently stationed at Fort Drum with the 2nd Battalion, 87th Infantry Regiment, 3rd Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division.

Mr. Charlton joined the Army in July 2007 and was deployed to Afghanistan in January.

The Army has not released information concerning how he suffered the fatal injuries.
