Matt Burns, the spokesman for Republican Dede Scozzafava, has severed ties with the campaign.

"I left the campaign yesterday," he told me via text message Sunday. "Dede is entitled to her own opinion, as is everyone, but I obviously disagree with her decision to support Owens. I am supporting Doug Hoffman, because denying Nancy Pelosi another foot soldier is vital to restoring fiscal responsibility and common sense in Washington."

Mr. Burns, a 1996 graduate of Canton High School worked hard for his candidate. He offered a lot of wisdom and a lot of humor during some long days. I wish him the best of luck in future endeavors, whether that be in his adopted home state of Minnesota or his true home state of New York.
