John Ostrowski

COPENHAGEN — John Ostrowski, 88, passed away at his home on Friday, October 30, 2009, while under the care of his family and Jefferson County Hospice.

Mr. Ostrowski was born at home at Rector's Corners in the town of Montague on May 6, 1921, the son of the late Leon and Nellie Kandefer Ostrowski. He graduated from Lowville Free Academy in 1939. On November 28, 1959, he married Ardanell F. Williams Liscum and together the couple owned and operated a dairy farm on Route 12 for over 50 years. Mrs. Ostrowski died in 2000. The farm is currently operated by his son, Jon and his wife, LuAnn.

Mr. Ostrowski was a member of the Grace Episcopal Church in Copenhagen. In his leisure time he enjoyed snowmobiling and going to polish dances.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, November 3, 2009, at 12:30 P.M. at the Trinity Episcopal Church with Rev. Walter Giles, officiating. Burial will follow in the West Lowville Cemetery.

Family and friends may call at the Sundquist Funeral Home in Lowville on Monday, November 2, 2009, from 1-3 and 8-10 P.M. Memorials may be made to the Hospice Foundation of Jefferson County Inc., 425 Washington Street, Watertown, NY 13601.

In addition to Jon and LuAnn, Mr. Ostrowski is also survived by six stepchildren: Lloyd and Jane Liscum of Lowville, Lyda Shockley of Disputanta, VA, Leslie and Karen Liscum of Pulaski, Carolyn Smith of Baldwinsville, Diane and Gilbert Snyder, Vancouver, WA and Faith Snyder of Copenhagen; his brother, Joseph and Pauline Ostrowski of Boonville and sisters, Mary Leviker of Lowville and Victoria and Timothy Conway of Syracuse.

Grandchildren, Tyler Ostrowski, Amber and Martin Coulombe, Grant and Beverly Moore, Matthew and Christine Liscum, Douglas and Deborah Shambo, Dale and Debbie Shambo, Daniel and Silvia Shambo, L. Gene and Kimberly Cone, David Shambo, Lyda Shambo, Stephen and Christine Shockley, R. Leslie and Renee Shockley, Kenneth and Denise Liscum, Robert Smith, Tamela and Matthew Desimone, Gregory and Andrea Snyder, Kirk and Helena Snyder, Holly and Anthony Solano, Genny and Eric Pond and Steven Snyder.

Great-grandchildren, William and Nicholaus Liscum, Danielle Shockley, Melissa and Kaitlynne Cone, Isabelle and Alexis Shambo, Brody Shambo, Alexander, Nathaniel and Benjamin Liscum, Zackery and John Snyder, Oskar, Nikolaus and Mihkel Snyder, Julia Solano, Nikolas Shangraw, Alexander, Brian and Ethan John Pond and numerous nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.

He is also predeceased by brothers, Henry and Walter Ostrowski and his sisters Sophie McCanney and Pauline Stonebrink.
