The mantra for the nation is "promises made to be broken," right down from the president to Doug Hoffman. When the Republican committee chose Dede Scozzafava to be the candidate to replace John McHugh, the other contenders pledged to support the choice of the committee. First and foremost, Doug Hoffman broke that pledge. How can we trust a person who cannot keep a promise? For whatever reason, and it appears to be a selfish and egotistical Hoffman decided he was the best choice.

Granted, Dede doesn't do what everyone would like, but we all can't have our way about everything all the time. She knows the north country much better than Hoffman or Bill Owens since you can probably count on two hands the number of times they have had anything to do with us down in the lower counties.

Instead of splitting the vote and losing the seat, why can't Hoffman do the right thing and challenge the seat in the next election when there would be a primary?

Vote for Dede on Tuesday. She knows our area best, and we should use a little common sense when weighing the pros and cons.
