I am scared about what is happening in our town with the politics and the windmill issue.
All the people who live here and pay taxes here, whether it be for six months or a year, have a constitutional right to have opinions and to express those opinions. When I read that 800 Cape Vincent residents signed a petition asking the town board to put a moratorium on the windmill issue, I was appalled that the board would not even consider it. Whether the wind power companies are shovel-ready for this project is not important. The town board should be listening to the constituents, not the companies that are going to take all the profits out of the country.
I have been a bit involved in politics as my father ran for town supervisor and town clerk way back when. He won some, he lost some. What I remember is that there was no mud-slinging from either person who ran for their party, and at the end of the day when the elections were over life went on with no grudges being carried forth. Now there seems to be nothing but anger and lies being spread about some of the politicians.
It is kind of scary to be here now as it seems as though the good ole boys are running our town without any care for what others might think. If you agree with them it is fine; if you dare put forth an opinion, you put yourself in the position of being ostracized.
It is time for Cape Vincent to unite and act in the interest of all, not a few, and to return to being kind to one another and pull together to make this the good town it used to be. We need to encourage folks to move here, not to sell and get out. There is so much anger in our town, and it has to stop if we are to achieve any harmony among our town and village boards and all the people they represent.
