CROGHAN — Anna Mae Noftsier, 69, a resident of Lewis County Residential Health Care Facility, formerly of Belfort Road, Croghan, died Saturday afternoon, October 31, 2009.

Calling hours are from 10:00 a.m. - Noon and 12:30 - 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday, November 3, 2009 at Croghan Mennonite Church. A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. in Croghan Mennonite Cemetery, followed by a memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Croghan Mennonite Church, with Rev. John Martin and Rev. Chad Atwood officiating. Contributions may be made to Croghan Mennonite Church for the Missions Offering, Kirschnerville Road, Croghan, NY 13327. Arrangements are with Iseneker Funeral Home, Inc., Lowville.

She is survived by four children and their spouses, Randall G. and Connie Noftsier of Croghan; Bonnie and Wilbur Zehr of Castorland; Cynthia and Beryl Zehr of Croghan; Judy and Edwin Zehr of Croghan; 12 grandchildren; Five brothers and their wives, Nelson and Mary Roes of Castorland; Raymond Roes of Beaver Falls; Vernon and Doreen Roes of Harrisonburg, VA; Leonard and Judy Roes of Lowville; Melvin and Judy Roes of Lowville; four sisters and their husbands, Edna Yousey of Croghan; Irene and Alvin Zehr of Castorland; Alice and Alvin Roggie of Castorland; Nancy and Marvin Widrick of Lowville; three sisters-in-law, Bertha Roes and Rosella Roes of Sarasota, FL; Clara Roes of Lowville; many nieces, nephews and cousins. Mrs. Noftsier is predeceased by a daughter, Jeanne Marie Noftsier, who died shortly after birth; three brothers, Edward, Maurice and Lloyd Roes; and a sister-in-law, Anna Mae Roes.

Mrs. Noftsier was born on July 4, 1940 at home in West Lowville, a daughter of the late Samuel and Ellen "Lena" Nafziger Roes. She attended Lowville Academy, and worked for Climax Manufacturing in Castorland before her marriage. On April 2, 1960, she married Grant S. Noftsier at Lowville Mennonite Church, with Rev. Lloyd Boshart officiating. Mr. Noftsier died May 12, 1991. Mrs. Noftsier worked in the cafeteria at Beaver River Central School from 1971 until retiring in June 2000.

Mrs. Noftsier was a member of Croghan Mennonite Church, where she was the church librarian for several years. She enjoyed cooking for church dinners. She also enjoyed oil painting, and traveling, especially to Europe, the Canadian Rockies and the Cayman Islands. Mrs. Noftsier was a caregiver for the elderly.
