Man charged with stealing

other's debit card, jewelry

A Fort Drum man was jailed Sunday on allegations that he stole and used another Fort Drum resident's debit card.

Errick J. Brown, 29, also is accused by the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department of selling jewelry that also was stolen from the victim.

He was arraigned before LeRay Town Justice George E. Mead III on third-degree counts of identity theft and unlawful possession of personal identification information, and fourth- and fifth-degree counts of criminal possession of stolen property. With bail set at $2,500, he remained Monday in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.

According to documents filed with the court, Mr. Brown on Aug. 18 and Aug. 23 sold four jewelry items belonging to David Braaf, Fort Drum, at Cash for Gold, Salmon Run Mall, for an undisclosed amount. On Sept. 14 and again the next day, he used Mr. Braaf's debit card and codes to make cash withdrawals from an ATM at Fort Drum, the documents also allege. The theft total was not revealed.

Mr. Brown awaits grand jury action.

Official calls Adams blaze

at warehouse 'suspicious'

ADAMS — No accidental causes have been found for the fire that erupted Sunday night in the former Greenley Fuel Co. warehouse on Phelps Street, according to Joseph D. Plummer, Jefferson County director of fire and emergency management.

The blaze therefore is considered suspicious, he said Monday.

Mr. Plummer said that although officials doubt there is a connection between Sunday's fire and two suspicious fires during October in Watertown, they are not ready to rule out the possibility. He was referring to fires Oct. 27 at 502 Water St., where a building was destroyed, and Thursday night at 103 Pearl St., where two wooden boats burned and the roof was damaged.
