LAFARGEVILLE — Glenn H. Eckert, 90, Honey Flats Road died Monday morning at home while under the care of his family and Hospice of Jefferson County.
Born March 5, 1919 in the town of Orleans, he was the son of George B. and Etta F. Julia Eckert and was a 1940 graduate of LaFargeville High School. He had been employed with the town of Orleans as a crossing guard and at New York Air Brake, Purina Feed Co. and Agway Corp. all in Watertown.
He married Virginia D Lawton on June 18, 1949 at Mannsville United Methodist Church with Revs. William Waters, Jr. and William Eddy officiating. The couple owned and operated a dairy farm in the town of Pamelia for twelve years and owned and operated Whitewood Farms in LaFargeville. Mrs. Eckert died January 17, 2009.
Mr. Eckert was a 4-H leader, teaching wood shop, a member of the Church of the Nazarene, LaFargeville, Jefferson Bulk Milk Coop, Brownville Rod and Gun Club and a charter member of the Pamelia Fire Department.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, planting trees and loved animals, especially his dog, Buddy.
Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Dennis Eckert, and Donald and Lorrie Eckert, all of LaFargeville; five daughters and a son-in-law, Karen Anderson, Pamelia, Julie and Douglas Ashland, LaFargeville; Joanne Walts, Mesa, AZ, Lynetta Welser, Central Square and Nancy Eckert, LaFargeville; thirteen grandchildren and eighteen great grandchildren; two brothers, Earl Eckert, LaFargeville and Walter Eckert, Clayton.
A brother, Theodore and a daughter, Brenda J. Eckert died before him.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Thursday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., 38422 NYS Route 37, Theresa with Rev. Timothy Cramer of the LaFargeville Church of the Nazarene officiating. Burial will be at Grove Cemetery, LaFargeville.
Calling hours are 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at the funeral home.
