Norwood
Receives honor: Bob Emlaw,Norwood, maintenance worker at Canton-Potsdam Hospital, Potsdam, has been named their employee of the month for October.
Mr. Emlaw joined the hospital in 1975 as a building attendant. He was one of the first to receive the title "Employee of the Month" in 1997, the year the recognition began. In addition to a certificate and pin, Mr. Emlaw received a dish garden, Chamber gift certificates and a designated parking space for the month of October.
Potsdam
Receives honor: Janet Moore,Potsdam, recently received the New York State Volunteer Firemen's Parade and Drill Team Captains' Association life membership at their annual dinner and installation ceremony in Albany. Ms. Moore has been active in the state association, serving as a drill and parade official as well as a past member of the association's parade rules committee, and represents the northern area on the timing committee.
She was nominated by the Hannawa Falls Fire Department for her work on the state level as well as for being St. Lawrence County parade chairwoman, stenographer for the Northern New York Volunteer Firemen's Association, chairwoman of the scholarship committee and member of the site and parade committees. Ms. Moore also serves on the legislative committee and is secretary of the Northern New York Parade and Drill Officials Association.
Jefferson County
Honored:The Northern New York Parade and Drill Team Captains' Association recently held its annual awards ceremony and officer installation dinner at Bonnie Castle Resort, Alexandria Bay.
New officers installed were Ryan St. Louis, Lake Placid, president; Jerry Flanders and Brian Sheitz, Copenhagen, and Heather Grow, Lake Placid, vice presidents; and Sandy Peck, Copenhagen, secretary treasurer.
The Clayton, Lake Placid, Copenhagen and Elsmere Fire Departments received awards for the season and Kevin Wheelock, state vice president, was honored for his eight years on the board of the Northern Association.

Adams Center
Native honored: Timothy Northrop,York, a native of Adams Center, recently won the annual Dairylea Cooperative Milk Quality Management Award for his herd's raw milk production.
Mr. Northrop is a 2001 graduate of South Jefferson Central School, Adams, and attended Cornell University, Ithaca, to study animal science and agribusiness. He left the area in 2001 and resides near Rochester.
Pulaski
Winners:The winners have been announced for the Salmon River Fine Arts Center2009 Exhibition and Competition of Sunday Artists.The show is open through Nov. 21, at the center. The judge of the event was Mary Lou Dewey.

Calcium
Receives award:Clarkson Army ROTC CadetJustin Westbrook,Calcium, recently received the Lt. Gen. Timothy J. Maude Memorial Fund Scholarship at the Annual Association of the United States Army Convention in Washington, D.C. The award is given to two Green to Gold Cadets nationally in honor of Lt. Gen. Maude, the highest-ranking officer killed in the Sept. 11, 2001, attack on the Pentagon. Lt. Gen. Maude's widow, Teri, and daughter, Karen, presented the award.
Cadet Westbrook is a senior at SUNY Potsdam, majoring in economics. He has served in the Army for six years, his last duty being with the Second Brigade Combat Team, 10th Mountain Division, as an Arabic linguist in the Second Brigade Special Troops Battalion. He has served as an Arabic linguist at Foot Hood, Texas, and at Fort Drum. After graduation in May, Cadet Westbrook will be commissioned as a military intelligence officer.
