NEW BREMEN — A Port Leyden man was flown to a Syracuse hospital after he was involved in a one-car crash at 10:48 p.m. Monday on Route 812 in the town of New Bremen.

Lewis County sheriff's deputies said Robert M. Hughes, 54, of 6953 Kelpytown Road, Lot #4, was southbound when he fell asleep, causing his car to go off the road and hit a tree.

Mr. Hughes was extricated from his vehicle and taken by helicopter to Upstate Medical University, Syracuse, where he was treated for non-life-threatening injuries.

No tickets were issued, but an investigation is continuing, deputies said.

Lewis County Search and Rescue, New Bremen Fire Department and the Croghan Fire Department and ambulance squad assisted at the scene.
