Ukraine native accused

of entering U.S. illegally

ALEXANDRIA BAY — A Jefferson County sheriff's patrol halted a speeding car late Monday on Interstate 81 in the town of Alexandria and determined that a passenger had just entered the country illegally.

Sergi Chystjakov, 42, Toronto, Ontario, a native of Ukraine, was turned over to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, according to the sheriff's office. No other details were available Tuesday.

Police investigate assault

of Watertown resident

Watertown police are investigating the assault of a city man early Saturday in the 600 block of Mill Street.

The victim, Edward A. Ward, 31, of 650 Burlington St., was conscious on the street when patrols arrived at the scene at 12:30 a.m. Saturday, said Lt. Frank J. Derrigo. Having suffered cuts and nose injuries, Mr. Ward was taken to Samaritan Medical Center, where he was treated and released, according to a hospital spokeswoman.

No arrests have been made. Lt. Derrigo said there were witnesses, but their statements gave conflicting information. Interviews are being continued, he said.

Massena woman accused

of grand-larceny attempt

NORFOLK — A Massena woman is accused of attempting to extort $5,000 from a Norfolk man to keep her from reporting an incident to police.

Nicole H. Stiles, 22, was charged Sunday with attempted fourth-degree grand larceny, a felony, state police said. She accused Cena Hadzovic, 43, of touching her inappropriately while at a restaurant in September.

Mr. Hadzovic was charged Thursday with forcible touching, troopers said. Both people were issued appearance tickets for Town Court.

Norfolk resident charged

in break-in at Massena

MASSENA — A Norfolk man is accused of breaking into a Windsor Street home Tuesday and stealing $10 in Canadian cash.

John P. Maxwell, 21, of 1247 County Route 36, was charged with second-degree burglary and petit larceny, village police said. Court records show Mr. Maxwell allegedly broke into 31 Windsor St., owned by Jeffrey Darling.

Mr. Maxwell was arraigned in Village Court and sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $5,000 bail or $10,000 bond.

He was charged Sunday with four counts of third-degree burglary and single count of possession of burglar tools, a state police investigator said. Mr. Maxwell was accused of breaking into the Louisville Arena four times last month and stealing cash.

Police: man approached

wife while holding knife

DEXTER — A man was arrested late Monday afternoon after he rushed toward his wife while wielding a knife in his upraised hand, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department.

John A. Gagnon, 24, of 17120 County Route 53, Lot 40, also is accused of choking his wife, Kristen, 20, of hitting her with a hand, and of throwing a fork at her, deputies said.

He was charged with second-degree counts of menacing and harassment, and was released without bail following arraignment in town of Brownville Court.

Watertown woman cited

with theft at Walmart

A woman was charged Monday by state police with petit larceny in an alleged $200 shoplifting incident at Walmart Supercenter, outer Arsenal Street.

Jessika A. McKinnie, 23, of 119 Stuart St., is summoned to appear in town of Watertown Court.

Fort Drum man charged

with assaults at hospital

A Fort Drum man who allegedly struggled Monday afternoon with personnel in Samaritan Medical Center was released Tuesday on $750 bail and awaits prosecution on two counts of assault.

Tam T. Nguyen, 19, was arrested by Watertown police at the hospital on second- and third-degree assault charges, and was detained until Tuesday, when he was arraigned before town of Watertown Justice James P. McClusky.

Police said Mr. Nguyen was under treatment at the hospital when he allegedly gave Andrew W. Carter, 47, a head butt, causing a nosebleed, and punched Brian Lennox, 37, in the jaw.

Man to answer charges

of harassment, mischief

Ian W. Finnegan, 25, of 150 Clinton St., was arrested at his home Monday afternoon after he had a domestic fight with his father, according to Watertown police.

Town of Watertown Justice James P. McClusky set bail at $250, placing him in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building.

Police charged him with second-degree harassment and fourth-degree criminal mischief on allegations that he shoved his father, Timothy J. Finnegan, and put a hole into a bedroom door.

Canton teenager charged

with sexual misconduct

CANTON — A Canton teen is accused of having sex with a 15-year-old girl at his home.

Jordan P. Serviss, 18, of 296 Brewer Road, was charged Tuesday with two counts of sexual misconduct and a single count of child endangerment, St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies said.

Mr. Serviss is a freshman at SUNY Canton, college officials said Tuesday.

He was arraigned in Town Court and released on his own recognizance.

Man accused of hitting,

kicking another at bar

NATURAL BRIDGE — Brenton E. Huff, 24, Bonaparte Estates, is due to appear in town of Wilna Court after being charged by state police Monday with third-degree assault in connection with a barroom fight.

Police allege that he punched and kicked Frederick Daniels, 53, Lewisburg Road, on the evening of Oct. 28 at 2 Charlie's Roadside Bar and Grill, Route 3.

Adams motorcyclist hurt

when bike, auto collide

ADAMS — Mark H. Blair, 39, Route 178, was listed as stable Tuesday at Samaritan Medical Center, Watertown, with undisclosed injuries he suffered Monday evening when his motorcycle collided with a vehicle at Route 11 and Maxon Lane.

Jefferson County sheriff's deputies said Mr. Blair was northbound on Route 11 at 6:40 p.m. Monday when Shane W. Haldeman, 17, Rodman, who was proceeding south, started to turn left in front of the bike. Mr. Haldeman was cited with failure to yield the right of way.

Martinsburg man cited

with assaulting another

LOWVILLE — Lewis County sheriff's deputies on Tuesday charged Merle R. Whipple IV, 21, Route 26, Martinsburg, with second-degree assault and fifth-degree conspiracy.

Mr. Whipple and two other men on Oct. 10 allegedly assaulted Jordan Hurley, 22, Lowville, on Rice Road in the town of Lowville.

Mr. Whipple was arraigned in Lowville Town Court and sent to Lewis County jail on $1,000 bail to await possible grand jury action.

The investigation is continuing, with more arrests expected, deputies said.
