Mildred Vallelunga

Mildred E. Vallelunga, Age 83, a resident at the Samaritan Keep Nursing Home, died Tues. Nov. 3rd at the Samaritan Medical Center.

Born on January 23, 1926, on Pt. Peninsula, daughter of Garrett and Iva Pennock VanNess, she graduated from Lyme Central School in 1943. Following school she worked at Faichney's, Bagley & Soules, and at the Fairgrounds Dry Cleaners.

She married Joseph Vallelunga on Feb. 15, 1947 at the All Saints Catholic Church, in Chaumont, by Rev. Edward P. Burns. The couple resided in Watertown, Mr. Vallelunga predeceased Nov. 21, 1997.

Mildred worked as a librarian assistant and teacher's assistant at Meade St. and Sherman St. School's. She worked at the Watertown Catechetical Office, located at Holy Family, retiring in the 80's.

She was a Brownie Leader, weekend presenter at the catholic engagement encounters, taught catechetical classes, was a member of the Marine Corp League Aux., and enjoyed sewing.

Among her survivors are a son and his wife, Joseph M. and Michelle Vallelunga, N. Syracuse; three daughters and their husbands, Barbara A. and Paul Nadelen, Hastings, Margaret V. "Peggy" and Marck DiStefano, Dexter, Patricia V. and Kevin Signor, Watertown; a sister and her husband, Nancy and Francis Brimmer, Adams Center; a brother and his wife, Earl and Viola VanNess, Watertown; a sister-in-law, Sr. Rose Vallelunga, MPF, Elwood City, Pa.; 8 grandchildren, 6 great grandchildren; several nieces and nephews.

Two sisters, Florence Snyder and Jennie VanNess, and two brothers, Arnold and Robert VanNess all died before her.

A prayer service will be Fri., Nov 6th 9:30 a.m. at Hart & Bruce Funeral Home. A funeral mass will follow at 10:00 a.m. at the Sacred Heart Church. Burial will follow in the N. Watertown Cemetery.

Calling hours will be Thurs., Nov 5th 4-7 p.m. at the funeral home.
