I am responding to the allegations regarding the Concerned Residents of Hammond. I am a member of CROH and attend meetings in which we have conversations about issues in Hammond.
Recent letters by Citizens for Wind accuse us of lying, spreading rumors and distorting facts. CROH members spend an enormous amount of time doing research. We visit other communities, attend meetings and provide our own residents with an opportunity to learn about both the pros and cons of wind power. The members are very careful about releasing any information that has not been checked and rechecked.
As far as I have seen, not one of the writers of the pro-wind letters has ever given even one example of those lies or rumors or distorted facts. They keep making these accusations, but never have anything to back them up. If you are going to make accusations, you'd better be prepared to prove them.
Furthermore, no member of CROH has lowered him or herself to the tactics I see when I drive around town. The pro-wind people have hung a crow (CROH) by a noose. They have put up signs on roadways calling CROH members liars. They have removed or destroyed political signs of challengers to the town board. There have been several instances in which our members have been called names and been victims of intimidation.
These tactics embarrass our community and set a poor example for our children. How have the CROH members responded? We simply continue to do our work and shrug it off. We don't follow suit, retaliate or try to intimidate individuals. We write letters trying to educate the public, attend town board meetings, do more research.
Citizens for Wind, educate the public, share your opinions. But when you write your letters, at least have the decency to back up your accusations with facts. Take down the nooses and the accusatory signs and move forward with integrity.
