Jefferson garners first win

SARANAC LAKE — Nick D'Alessandro scored 18 points to help power Jefferson Community College to an 86-82 victory over North Country Community College in a men's basketball game Tuesday.

Cesar Silva dropped in 17 points, while Alan Forbes finished with 14 points for the Cannoneers, who went on a 32-6 run in the first half after trailing by seven points.

Collis Maddox contributed 13 points, and Terence Henderson added 10 for JCC, which led 46-27 at halftime.

Drew Boyea connected for 24 of his game-high 27 points in the second half for the Saints (0-1), which took a five-point lead with three minutes remaining. North Country finished with 16 3-pointers, six of them from Boyea. Tony Sparkman supplied 17 points, and Kendall Jones and Justin Poirier added 15 and 14 points, respectively.

D'Alessandro, Forbes and Henderson each hit key 3-pointers at the end to help secure the victory for JCC (1-1).

Olga Garcia recorded 17 points in the Saints' opener against the Cannoneers in Saranac Lake.

Alicia Bradberry led Jefferson with 14 points, and Nicole Perry and Jenny Jones pitched in with 13 and 10 points, respectively, for JCC (1-1).
