Former Drum chief picked to direct IED Defeat group

Former Fort Drum and 10th Mountain Division Commander Maj. Gen. Michael L. Oates has been nominated by President Barack Obama to direct the Joint Improvised Explosive Device Defeat Organization in Arlington, Va., the Department of Defense announced Thursday.
The nomination would include a promotion in rank to lieutenant general.
