PHILADELPHIA — Robert S. Branch, 81, formerly of Philadelphia died Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at Carthage Area Hospital where he was a patient. Mr. Branch was a resident at Country Manor Nursing & Rehabilitation Centre in Carthage.

Born April 10, 1928 in Saranac Lake, he was the son of Herbert and Mable Lewis Branch and graduated from Saranac High School.

Mr. Branch served in the United States Navy from February 1945 to August 1946, during World War II in Pearl Harbor, HI and Panama. Following his honorable discharge he was employed as a carpenter.

He was married to Catherine Smith. She died on March 14, 1988.

Mr. Branch was a long time member of the Robert Markwich Post 798, Philadelphia and he enjoyed hunting and fishing in his spare time.

Survivors include two sons and a daughter-in-law, Richard and Beverly, Chaumont and Gregory, Watertown; three daughters and two sons-in-law, Barbra and Richard Stephenson, Dayton, TX, Deborah Parker and Sandra and Mark Stephenson, all of Theresa; a sister, Janice Branch, Gardenville; 8 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren.

A son, Robin J. died before him.

The funeral will be 11 am Monday at Frederick Bros. Funeral Home, Inc., Theresa with Rev. Edgar A. Hunter, Sr., retired Methodist minister officiating. Burial will be at Sandy Hollow Cemetery, Philadelphia. A calling hour will be 10 to 11 am prior to the funeral.
