New York Yankees Manager Joe Girardi was driving in suburban Westchester County early Thursday morning only hours after guiding his team to a World Series championship.

The euphoria of having defeated the Philadelphia Phillies on baseball's biggest stage did not prevent him from rendering service to an accident victim. He had his wife call 911 and approached a damaged vehicle to check on the driver. He talked to the driver, a woman, who suffered cuts, until police arrived, the Associated Press reported.

"She had no idea who I was," Mr. Girardi was quoted as saying. "I think the important thing is, you know, obviously there's a lot of joy in what we do, but we can't forget to be human beings where we help others out. I think that's the most important thing we can do in life."

Spoken like a champ.
