MASSENA — Mrs. Edith Parks Butler, 94, formerly of 46 Clarkson Ave, passed away at the St. Regis Nursing Home on Thursday, November 5, 2009 with her granddaughter, Tammy, by her side. She had been a resident of the nursing home since 2005.

Friends are invited to celebrate her life at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, Saturday, November 21 from 3-5 where a service will be held at 5:00 PM. Burial will be held privately in Forest Cemetery, St. Regis Falls.

Mrs. Butler is survived by two sons, Jonathan (Louise) Butler of Massena and Randy Butler of Watertown; two siblings, Mrs. Augustus (Betty) Palmer, Lake Titus, NY and a brother, Frank (Irene) Parks of Fort Wayne, Indiana; three granddaughters, Tammy Butler (companion Ken Paquette) of Massena; Mrs. Tim (Holly) Snyder of North Carolina; Julie Butler of Watertown and one grandson, James Butler of Watertown; Several great grandchildren, Nathan (20), Olivia (19, Daniel (15), Hunter (14), Christopher (13) Jason (11), Joey (8), and Allison (15 mo).

She was predeceased by her beloved husband, Harry, a brother, Morton (Helen) Parks and a sister, Leonora Allen, both of St. Regis Falls.

Edith was born on May 21, 1915 to Claude and Eva Wood Parks of St. Regis Falls. She grew up and schooled in St. Regis Falls. She attended Canton Agricultural College majoring in Home Economics. She was employed by Sealtest Ice Cream and Alcoa in Massena. She was a past member of the Order of the Eastern Star, First Baptist Church in Massena and in earlier years the Emmanuel Congregational United Church of Christ, Massena. Edith was also the head of the Girl Scouts Association for the Massena area.

Edith married Harry O. Butler of Brasher Falls, on December 22, 1935 in Saranac Lake. Mr. Butler, a retired teacher for Massena Central, predeceased her on October 11, 1982. Together they enjoyed many years of wintering in Fort Myers, Florida and were avid antique collectors.

She enjoyed life and had many hobbies. Over the years she took pleasure in playing Bridge, sewing, oil painting, camping and boating, doll collecting, playing the piano, and reading her Bible.
