MASSENA — Mrs. Eleanor M. Fyckes, 88, of 57 George Street, passed away Friday afternoon, November 6, 2009, at St. Joseph's Hospital, Syracuse, where she had been a patient for the past week.

She was born September 16, 1921 in Massena, the daughter of William and Hermine "Minnie" St. Denis Mousseau. She attended Massena schools. Eleanor married Sterling F. Fyckes on September 14, 1940 at St. John's Episcopal Church, Massena. He predeceased her on October 18, 1998.

She was a homemaker, who enjoyed knitting, gardening and playing bingo.

She is survived by her 3 children and their spouses, Sheila and Mike Brannen, Louisville; Frances and Charles Rush, Baldwinsville; Sterling, Jr. and Nancy Fyckes, Norwood; 12 grandchildren and 16 great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Alice Hazel, Massena; Marion and Gordon Hazel, Massena; and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by 2 daughters, Judy at age 9 months, and Nancy Valyo on December 16, 1998; 2 sisters, Helen M. Caron and Julia Limer; 3 brothers, Harold, Lawrence "Larry", and Paul Mousseau.

Friends may call Monday 12-3:00 PM at the Donaldson Funeral Home, Massena, where funeral services will be held at 3:00 PM. Burial will follow in Pine Grove Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Massena Meals on Wheels, Hospice and Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley, or the American Diabetes Association.
