CLAYTON — Elsie M. Garnsey, 79, Co. Rt. 4, Clayton, passed away Fri. morning, Nov. 6, 2009, at the home of Robert and Jackie Garnsey.

The funeral service will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., 320 John St., Clayton, on Thurs., Nov. 12, at 12:00PM with Rev. Arthur LaBaff, pastor of St. Mary's Church, officiating. Burial will be at the family's convenience in Grindstone Island Cemetery.

Donations may be made in her name to the Grindstone Island Methodist Church.

Mrs. Garnsey was born in Stafford Springs, CT on Mar. 25, 1930, the daughter of Frank and Rose Barvenik Kasacek. She attended school in Stafford Springs, and then the family resided in Storrs, CT.

She married Robert L. Garnsey on Jan. 30, 1953. The couple moved to Clayton in 1966, and Mr. Garnsey died on Nov. 15, 1970. She lived on Grindstone Island until 1991.

Mrs. Garnsey was a homemaker. While in CT, she worked for Electromotive as an assembler of transistor radio parts, and while on Grindstone Island, she did housekeeping for several families.

She grew up Catholic and had attended Grindstone Island Methodist Church. She enjoyed knitting, crocheting, gardening, cooking, and baking.

She is survived by her son and his wife, Robert L. and Jacqueline S. Garnsey, Clayton; her 3 grandchildren; her brother and his wife, Ed and Jan Kasacek, Willimantic, CT and FL; her sister-in-law, Magdel Brown, Grindstone Island, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. One grandson predeceased her.
