PRINCETON, N.J. — The Clarkson University men's hockey team remains winless on the road this season after a 4-1 loss to Princeton in an ECAC Hockey game Saturday afternoon at the Hobey Baker Rink.

The Golden Knights (3-6 overall, 0-2 conference) outshot Princeton 19-8 in the opening period but the Tigers (2-2, 1-1) scored the only goal of the first 20 minutes.

After withstanding Clarkson's opening surge, Princeton controlled the rest of the game, outshooting the Golden Knights 26-13 in the final two periods.

Princeton's Dan Bartlett scored the opening goal at 5 minutes, 29 seconds of the first period.

"It was probably our best period of the year, and we were down 1-0," Clarkson coach George Roll said. "We hit two posts. It's just the way things are going for us right now. We can't finish right now."

Second periods have been a problem for Clarkson in many road games this season and Princeton continued the trend by adding two goals and outshooting Clarkson 17-6 in the middle period.

Mark Magnowski scored a power-play goal at 1:57 of the period and a Clarkson turnover led to a goal from Matt Arhontas at 12:31, making it 3-0.

The Golden Knights scored their only goal at 3:10 of the third period when Matt Beca put in a rebound of a shot from Lauri Tuohimaa for his sixth goal of the season. Mark Borowiecki also assisted.

Princeton ended the scoring with an empty-net goal from Arhontas at 18:07.

Clarkson will come back home, where it is 3-0 and also won an exhibition game, hosting Rensselaer and Union this weekend. Then the team goes back on the road for four straight games.

"Hopefully we can get this turned around," Roll said. "I think the big thing for us is finishing on our chances. Tonight we had so many Grade A's again, especially early. We could have been up 2- or 3-0 after the first period. I thought our effort this weekend was pretty good."

One positive for the Golden Knights this weekend was taking only six total penalties. Clarkson had 24 penalties in two games last weekend at Minnesota-Duluth.
