A Williamstown man was driving a motorcycle that had been stolen in the town of Ellisburg when he was arrested Oct. 17 in the town of Orleans on a charge of aggravated driving while intoxicated, according to state police.

Daniel L. Hammond, 44, who has been held in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building since the DWI arrest, was charged Monday by troopers with petit larceny, unauthorized use of a vehicle, driving without a license and operating an uninsured and unregistered vehicle. Bail was set at $2,000 on the new charges by Adams Village Justice Marilyn E. Hosley.

Police allege that he stole a motorcycle owned by Kenneth Stevens, Ellisburg, and was driving it on Interstate Route 81 in the town of Orleans shortly after 6 p.m. Oct. 17 while having a blood alcohol content of 0.23 percent. Under state law, 0.18 percent is the threshold for aggravated DWI.
