When Dawn M. Biosi saw how quickly her consignment store outgrew the 600 square feet she rented in Sandy Creek, she decided to move.

"It took off much faster than I thought it would," she said.

Baby & Beyond's new space is at 112 Court St., within walking distance of two other consignment and resale stores on Court Street and Public Square.

"It's just something I always wanted to do," Mrs. Biosi said. "I love going to consignment shops."

The store carries sizes from infant to adult and everything in between, with children's, junior's, women's including plus sizes and men's. Mrs. Biosi also has wedding and prom dresses, shoes and baby accessories, including toys and a playpen or high chair.

Mrs. Biosi said the consignment store ended up being a great endeavor after she retired from the state Department of Transportation. She and her husband, Gary N., moved down to North Carolina for a while, but decided to return to the north country.

Consignors receive half of the sale price and items are displayed for 60 days, Mrs. Biosi said. At that point, consignors can choose to pick the items up or consign them again.

"Most of my consignors came with me from Sandy Creek," she said. "It worked out perfectly."

The 1,200-square-foot space on Court Street includes two rooms that she hopes to use to sell small household items, such as kitchen appliances and pictures.

She said she picked the spot after driving around downtown.

"This one was perfect," she said. "We didn't have to do any work to it, basically."

She said her prime location, which can be seen from the Arsenal Street intersection with Public Square, made her put a lot of work into the window display.

"Once you see the windows, that tells you if you want to stop in or not," she said.

Being close to other consignment stores isn't bad either. Kim's Kloset is less than a block away, at 168 Court St., and Solitary Consignment is at 34 Public Square.

"We didn't realize Kim's Kloset was here," Mrs. Biosi said. "We all have different things and different prices, though."

Baby & Beyond is open 9:30 a.m. to 6 p.m. Mondays through Fridays and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays, with flexibility in the winter.
