Barbara Centrella

MASSENA — Funeral services for Barbara K. Centrella, 72, of 31 Grinnell Ave. will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home in Massena. Friends are invited to call on Friday from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Phillips Memorial Home, Inc., 64 Andrews St., Massena, NY. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery.

At the family’s request, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice & Palliative Care of St. Lawrence Valley.

Barbara passed away on Wednesday, November 11, 2009 at her home under the loving care of her family and hospice.

Barbara is survived by three children, Mrs. Dennis (Julie) Block, Richard and wife Jeannie Centrella, Gina Centrella, all of Massena; her stepmother, Viola Podgurski of Massena; five grandchildren, Debbie Dailey, Tammy Briggs, Kristen Block, Joshua Centrella, and Michelle Block.

She was born December 24, 1936 in Massena, the daughter of Michael and Elaine (Perry) Podgurski. She graduated from Miami Beach High School and then graduated from hair dressing school in Syracuse. She married Ernest Centrella on July 19, 1955, the marriage ended in divorce.

She enjoyed interior decorating. She was an avid gardener, and enjoyed collecting antiques. She was also a great baker.
