Golden Knights fall in NCAA debut

MEDFORD, Mass. — The Clarkson University volleyball team, making its first NCAA Division III tournament appearance, lost in four sets to Wellesley, 25-16, 25-14, 23-25, 25-19, on Thursday at Tuft University's Cousens Gymnasium.

Jenna Stock led the Golden Knights with 30 assists, 18 digs and five kills. Freshman Courtney Haines recorded 12 kills, Sara Artus supplied eight kills and MacKenzie Cook added six kills. Junior Alison Schroeder finished with 24 digs.

Clarkson finishes its season with a record of 28-7 and an .800 win percentage that ranks as the best in school history.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

HERKIMER COUNTY CC 86,

JEFFERSON CC 69

Ian Austin-Michaud scored 15 points and Akeem Ellis and Rhamel Williams each added 14 as the Generals beat the Cannoneers in Herkimer.

Collis Maddox connected on five 3-pointers en route to a 25-point effort for JCC (2-4), and Terance Henderson scored 18.

Herkimer is ranked fourth in the nation and would have a record of 4-0. However, wins over Schenectady County CC and Adirondack CC are currently being treated as forfeits due to a clerical error with Ian Austin-Michaud's paperwork. The forfeitures are under appeal.

WOMEN'S BASKETBALL

HERKIMER COUNTY CC 71,

JEFFERSON CC 45

The Generals put four players in double figures as they cruised past the Cannoneers in Herkimer.

Heather Sickler led the way with 13 points, Jess Brawn and Courtney Terzi each scored 11, and Sam Fox added 10 for Herkimer (4-0).

Nicole Perry poured in 17 points, including four 3-pointers, and Tara Gervera added 10 for JCC (1-4).
