Nov. 15, 1999:Artist Catherine C. Johnson's show titled "The North Country — My Secret Garden," at the newly renovated art gallery inside the American Handweaving Museum's Italianate building, Clayton, sold $18,500 worth of collages, watercolors and pen-and-ink drawings. Mrs. Johnson, Watertown, turned the money over to the museum. In recognition of her gift, the museum's board of trustees has decided to name the gallery after Mrs. Johnson.

Nov. 15, 1984:Schools in Jefferson and Lewis counties have more than 6,000 empty classroom seats that can accommodate anticipated increased enrollment from the addition of a light infantry division at Fort Drum, according to a recent survey.

Nov. 15, 1959:The Mercy Hospital has purchased and installed a universal hospital bed, a circolectric, the first hospital in Northern New York to add the new appliance. Through its unique revolving design, a full 180 degrees, it permits exact positioning of patients.

75 years ago

Nov. 15, 1934:Hunting fatalities in Northern New York during the 1934 deer season were the lowest in years, a survey during the past month shows. Only one person died as a result of bullet wounds, although nine others sustained injuries.

Nov. 15, 1909:St. Patrick's Church, Watertown, was rededicated by dignitaries of the church of this diocese and of Canada in celebration of the church's 50th jubilee.

125 years ago

Nov. 15, 1884:The Watertown Spring Wagon Co., one of the most flourishing industrial institutions in the city or country, maintains its reputation abroad without the slightest diminution. It is announced that it has just received orders from western houses for 1,100 wagons.
