Nellie A. Woodruff, 99, former Adams resident, died early Saturday at the Lewis County Residential Long Term Health Care Facility where she had been a resident since April 30, 2002. Funeral service will be 7:30 pm Wednesday at the Rutland Community Church, with Rev. Larry Duthie and Pastor David Woodruff officiating. There will be an hour of calling hours preceding the funeral, beginning at 6:30pm. Burial will be private in Brookside Cemetery, Watertown. Miss Woodruff was born November 4, 1910 in Rutland daughter of George and Nora Cummings Woodruff. She graduated from Copenhagen High School, Oswego State Teachers College followed by graduate work at Oswego and Syracuse University obtaining her Masters Degree from Oswego State. She taught English at the Graham School , Hastings on the Hudson, NY and Wellsville Central High School retiring in 1971. Following her retirement she moved to Adams and spent winters in Florida.
Miss Woodruff had a life long interest in education and for many years volunteered as a Literacy Volunteer. She was also very interested in sports and was an avid golfer most recently belonging to the former Tomacy's Golf Club in Adams. In 1994 she scored a hole in one at the Skyview Golf Course , Lakeland, Florida. She was also very interested in bird watching and had led a club in Wellsville.
Miss Woodruff is survived by several nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by three brothers and their wives Gerald B. and Lillian, Theodore and Beula, Mexico and Lloyd G. and Elizabeth, and one sister and her husband, Florence and Alvin Hasseler.
She was a member of the Rutland Community Church.
