Nov. 16, 1999:The Jefferson Rehabilitation Center is showing off equipment at its Production Unlimited work site during an open house, including special equipment used for the agency's most recent contract with Climax Manufacturing Co., Carthage. JRC was awarded a contact to assemble, package and heat seal 600,000 boxes for the company.

25 years ago

Nov. 16, 1984:Building housing for troops of the 10th Infantry Division "is a wise investment" Army officials told bankers, developers, elected officials and the public. Army Corps of Engineers officials addressed more than 150 people at Jefferson Community College at a meeting called by the Fort Drum Steering Committee.

50 years ago

Nov. 16, 1959:The St. Lawrence Paper Co. mill, Norfolk, which was shut down, was sold by the Knight Newspaper Syndicate, Akron, Ohio, to the Aco Machinery Corp., Watertown, of which Abe Cooper, Watertown and Syracuse industrialist, is president. Mr. Cooper could not be reached for comment on what his firm intends to do with the 58-year-old papermaking operation.

75 years ago

Nov. 16, 1934:One dozen letters, containing lottery tickets from Canada, were seized at the Watertown post office. This is the second seizure made at the local post office in the past month. The postal department is waging a relentless campaign against the traffic of lottery tickets through the mails.

100 years ago

Nov. 16, 1909:Health Officer Dr. E.S. Willard reports that there is no cause for alarm from the diphtheria situation. The city has but three cases at the present time.

125 years ago

Nov. 16, 1884:At the end of the 10-mile skating race at Gouverneur, appeals were made to the referee claiming the scoreboard was incorrect. The referee, after consulting with the markers, who claimed that because of the noise and confusion their count might be inaccurate, declared the race a draw. Another race was called for next week.
