heroin, pot to Cape prison
CAPE VINCENT — Two women from Schenectady were intercepted Sunday morning in their alleged attempt to smuggle heroin and marijuana to an inmate they intended to visit at Cape Vincent Correctional Facility, according to state police.
During a routine search of visitors by correction officers, 16.9 grams of heroin and 5 grams of marijuana were seized, police said.
Desiree F. Womack and Lakisha A. Singleton, both 25, were arrested on charges of first-degree introducing dangerous contraband, fourth-degree conspiracy and third-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Ms. Womack additionally faces a charge of unlawful possession of marijuana.
Town of Watertown Justice James P. McClusky set bail for each at $5,000, sending them to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, Watertown. They await grand jury action.
Man accused of inhaling
vapors, injuring officer
A Watertown man was jailed Saturday on charges that he inhaled paint thinner and slammed the door on the foot of a police officer investigating an odor complaint at his apartment.
City police charged Terry L. Gebo, 49, of 814 Academy St., Apt. 1, with second-degree harassment, second-degree reckless endangerment and inhalation of toxic vapors.
Mr. Gebo allegedly inhaled Toluol, a type of paint thinner, and had a lit candle five feet from a sock soaked in the liquid, creating a fire hazard. He also was accused of shutting the door on the right foot of Officer Kenny C. Noone and pushing the officer's hands away.
Mr. Gebo was arraigned before Watertown Town Justice James P. McClusky and sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building on $250 bail.
Port Leyden girl accused
of trying to strike teens
LYONS FALLS — A Port Leyden teen was charged Sunday with attempting to run over three youths last week.
Lewis County sheriff's deputies charged Mariah L. Mashaw, 17, of 3632 McDonald Road, with three counts of second-degree reckless endangerment and two counts of endangering the welfare of a child, answerable in Lyonsdale Town Court.
Ms. Mashaw on Nov. 9 intentionally drove into the back of a vehicle driven by Kyle L. Riesel at Franklin and Laura streets, then shortly afterward attempted to strike Mr. Riesel and two teenage passengers after they got out of their vehicle in a parking lot off Lyons Falls Road.
Police say Redwood man
stole cell phone at house
A man was captured by state troopers early Monday after he allegedly opened a window at a house on Route 3 in the town of LeRay, reached in and stole a cell phone.
Jeremiah C. Collins, 27, Redwood, was arrested on charges of second-degree burglary, fourth-degree criminal mischief, possession of burglar tools, petit larceny and unlawful possession of marijuana.
With bail set at $50,000 by Pamelia Town Justice Richard C. Baker, he was jailed in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building to await grand jury action.
Police said he was apprehended at the scene of the theft after a resident of the house called 911 at 4:39 a.m.
The name of the property owner was not disclosed by police.
Man facing five charges
in alleged road rage case
The Jefferson County Sheriff's Department has filed five charges against a Copenhagen man who allegedly sideswiped a woman's car on Route 11 in the town of LeRay after they had an argument.
Deputies are calling the Oct. 6 incident an act of road rage.
Scott P. Shattuck, 42, awaits prosecution in town of LeRay Court on charges of fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree reckless endangerment, reckless driving, failure to obey a traffic control device and making an unsafe lane change.
Nobody was injured in the afternoon incident. Deputies alleged he started to pass an auto driven by Heather N. Woodard, 24, of 305-C Eagle Ave., Philadelphia, then pulled right, hitting the side of her car.
Man returning to face
charges in Connecticut
CANTON — A 23-year-old man waived his extradition rights Monday in St. Lawrence County Court and will return to Connecticut to face attempted-murder and drug charges.
Judge Jerome J. Richards sent Hasan I. Ellis back to St. Lawrence County jail to await pickup by Connecticut authorities. Massena village police arrested him on a warrant Nov. 2 at a home on Perkins Road.
Mr. Ellis has five outstanding warrants from the Norwich, Conn., and London, Conn., police departments and Connecticut state police. He allegedly skipped out on $250,000 bail and a Norwich judge issued a warrant Aug. 11 for his arrest, Norwich police said.
