Leon P. Segovis
CARTHAGE — Leon P. Segovis, 85, formerly of Old Forge and the Rogers Crossing Road, died early Sunday morning, November 15, 2009 at the Carthage Area Hospital Skilled Nursing Facility where he had been a resident for the past four years. He was born on December 30, 1923 in Carthage to Leon and Lillian Odett Segovis. He attended school in Carthage; he received his GED in 1953.
He served in the United States Army from 1943-1972. He served with the United States Special Forces and the Green Berets. He received a Vietnam Service Medal; Vietnam Campaign Medal; Bronze Star Medal; Combat Infantryman's Badge; Meritorious Service Medal.
Two previous marriages ended in divorce.
He worked for LUNCO, he also owned and operated the Green Light Restaurant and Bar in Carthage; He was a cook for Levis House in Carthage. He also worked at various Restaurants in Old Forge.
He is survived by a companion Janet Bush Driggers, Palatka, Florida; a son Leon Jr. & his wife Trudy Segovis, Rodman; a daughter Renee & her husband Paul Orton Jr., Carthage; a daughter Sandra & her husband Patrick McCreadie, Carthage; a daughter Brenda & her husband George Merrill, Rodman; and a daughter Yvonne & her husband Stanley Spencer, Watson. He is also survived by two sisters Patricia Bishop, Carthage; and Phyllis Lee, Montana and 14 grandchildren, 3 great-grandchildren, several nieces and nephews.
He is predeceased by a son Alan, and three brothers; Neil, George, and Craig Segovis.
He was a lifetime member of the Covey-Pashley American Legion Post #893, The VFW Post # 9314. He enjoyed the outdoors, cooking and gardening. He loved spending time with his children and his grandchildren.
There will be a graveside service at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, November 19, 2009 in the Fairview Cemetery in Carthage with Full-Military Honors.
