Deputies probe burglaries
at gas station, restaurant
MADRID — St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies are investigating two burglaries that happened early Tuesday.
About midnight, at least two people smashed a door window at Wayne's Gas Station on Route 310 in Madrid and stole an undisclosed amount of money and cigarettes. About an hour later, a front window of the Longbranch Restaurant in Morley was smashed. It is unclear whether anything was taken, deputies said.
The two incidents appear to be related and the work of the same people. Deputies are working to identify the people using pictures taken by security cameras at the two businesses.

Fort Drum man arrested
in disturbance outside bar
Watertown police at 1:50 a.m. Sunday charged John T. Sullivan, 26, of P-175, Apt. 1002, Fort Drum, with disorderly conduct outside Mick's Place, 204 Factory St.
Mr. Sullivan allegedly waved his arms in an aggressive manner while being restrained by bar staff, then continued to yell and swing his arms after being told by police to leave the area. He was turned over to Fort Drum military police and is to answer the charge in City Court.
Watertown man charged
after dispute with father
Watertown police on Saturday night charged Eric T. Johnson Jr., 21, of 167 Green St., with second-degree reckless endangerment, fourth-degree criminal mischief, second-degree harassment and endangering the welfare of a child.
Mr. Johnson allegedly bit his father in the forearm and threw a metal table lamp toward his head during an argument at their residence. The senior Mr. Johnson was holding a 2-year-old at the time, police said.
Teen accused of throwing
rock, smashing window
Watertown police say a city youth threw a rock Friday night at the house at 549 W. Main St., smashing a window.
Tyler J. McCargar, 16, of 273 Franklin St., Apt. A, was charged Sunday with fourth-degree criminal mischief and is ordered to appear in City Court.
Man accused of damaging
mirror, door during fight
Justin A. Cramer, 19, of 572 Pearl St., Apt. 5, awaits arraignment in City Court on a charge of fourth-degree criminal mischief as a result of a domestic fight at his residence Sunday afternoon, according to Watertown police.
He is accused of kicking a mirror, smashing the glass, and a bedroom door, putting a hole in it, police said.
Women accused of trying
to steal shirts from Sears
State police on Saturday evening charged two women with trying to steal shirts from the Sears store at Salmon Run Mall in unrelated incidents.
Amber L. Clark, 18, Dexter, was charged with petit larceny at 7:30 p.m. for allegedly taking two shirts worth $25.98, while Heather M. LaVancha received the same charge at 9:46 p.m. for allegedly stealing two shirts worth $32.30.
Both are to answer the charges in Watertown Town Court.
Police say woman stole
purse containing $2,000
When a woman stole another woman's purse Friday night, she found $2,000 in cash when she opened the handbag, Watertown police allege.
Gayle E. Merrifield, 40, of 279 High St., was arrested Monday evening on a felony charge of fourth-degree grand larceny. She awaits grand jury action.
Police said she stole the purse from Tina M. Lefrancois, Evans Mills, at Artie's tavern, 329 High St.
Carthage man charged
with sexual misconduct
CARTHAGE — Richard C. Mono, 40, of 754 West End Ave., is free on $1,000 bail awaiting prosecution in Village Court on a misdemeanor charge of sexual misconduct.
Carthage police said he is charged in an incident alleged to have occurred early Nov. 7. No other details were provided by police.
False statement alleged
GOUVERNEUR — Christopher Shampine, 23, of 71 Bullard St., was charged Monday with making a false written statement after reportedly illegally taking a deer, St. Lawrence County sheriff's deputies said. He was issued an appearance ticket for Town Court.
