St. Lawrence County Legislator Dan Girard is asking for dismissal of the ticket he received regarding the hit-and-run fiasco from a month or so ago. Not only did he run, but then lied to police, got caught, recanted his lie and now wants complete dismissal. Does this man think that everyone owes him a free pass?
Not only do we, as county residents, have to tolerate his allowed, paid presence as a legislator, but we also have to watch as he tries to make a complete escape from any responsibility. What do his actions, from beginning to end, show the public, to say nothing about what it teaches his students, about consequences for breaking the law? Being given the privilege to keep his position was not enough. Now he expects a fresh, clean slate consequence-free.
I certainly hope the District Attorney's Office doesn't give Mr. Girard a free pass like the county and his employer did by not demanding his resignation.
If Mr. Girard has any sense of conscience and decency, he should resign his position and pay his ticket.
