CLAYTON — Lawrence R. "Kilroy" Youngs, 85, State St., Clayton, passed away Tues. evening, Nov. 17, 2009, at Samaritan Medical Center, where he had been a patient since Nov. 9.

Calling hours will be held at Cummings Funeral Service, Inc., 320 John St., Clayton, on Fri., Nov. 20, from 2 - 4 PM and 7 - 9 PM. The funeral service will be held at the convenience of the family. Burial and rite of committal will be held on Sat., Nov. 21, at 11 AM in Clayton Cemetery with Rev. Dr. D. James Lewis, pastor of River Community Church, officiating. Military honors will be provided by Colon-Couch American Legion Post 821.

The family requests donations in lieu of flowers to the Sunshine Club of 3 East, c/o Samaritan Medical Center, 830 Washington St., Watertown, NY 13601.

Kilroy was born in Clayton on April 16, 1924, the son of Wilbur E. and Laura M. Scott Youngs. He attended Clayton schools.

He entered the United States Army on April 17, 1943. He received the European African Middle Eastern Medal with 4 Bronze Battle Stars, the World War II Victory Medal, and the Good Conduct Medal. He was honorably discharged on Nov. 15, 1945 as a Sergeant. He re-enlisted on Oct. 27, 1950, and was honorably discharged as a Tech. Sergeant on June 2, 1952.

On Nov. 9, 1952 he married Carol M. Emerson at the Clayton Baptist Church.

Mr. Youngs worked as a mechanic and maintenance worker for Brooks Lumber Co., Reff Motor Corp., Seaway Vending, Clayton Marina, Jerry Russell, Frink SnoPlow, and C-Way Golf Course. He had also been a sales rep for Sicards.

He was a member of the Clayton Baptist Church, which is now River Community Church, Colon-Couch American Legion Post 821, where he had been a Past Commander twice, and VFW Post 1400 and Elks Lodge 496, both in Watertown. He was also an exempt member of the Clayton Volunteer Fire Dept. and the Calumet Race Team. He was an avid sportsman, enjoying softball, baseball, golf, bowling, fishing, and hunting.

Besides his wife, Carol, Kilroy is survived by his son and his wife, Rick L. & Tillie Youngs, Depauville; his 4 daughters and their husbands, Kathy L. & Wayne Slate, Jr., Syracuse, Debbie R. & Donald Badour and Laurie S. & Sammy LaMora, all of Clayton, and Eydie M. & Michael Frank, LaFargeville; his mother-in-law, Edith E. MacFarlane, Watertown; 12 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers and their wives, Wayne E. & Marjorie Youngs, Clayton, and Clyde K. & Louise Youngs, Ceres; 1 sister, Ethelwyn Mikalonis, PA; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

He was predeceased by 1 infant grandson, Daniel Rosbrook, and 3 brothers, Wendell "Rev," LeVerne T. "Red" and Leon "Chuck" Youngs.
