The Sunday Weekly cover story was very interesting. The degree to which loudmouths such as Rush Limbaugh, Glenn Beck, Dick Armey and yes, Sarah Palin, attacked Dierdre Scozzafava is appalling.

One of the first words a small child learns to say is "no." It appears that the persons named above have never learned much else. They do not understand compromise, consensus or dialogue. It seems to be their way or the highway. How sad.

While I do not agree with many of the political ideas of Ms. Scozzafava, I admire her tenacity in holding to her principles. I wish her well and hope she recovers from this horrific experience. She has served her district well and appears to be held in high regard by many of her constituents.

This recent election and the interference it received from the loudmouth segment of the party of no has only reinforced the decision I made in 2000 to abandon my 50 years' affiliation as a member of the now-defunct GOP. I could no longer tolerate the small-minded, reactionary disregard for the welfare of the populace.

Elected officials must serve the people first. That principle has escaped the attention of those in the Party of No.
