POTSDAM — A Clarkson University trustee has been named deputy assistant secretary for clean coal by the U.S. Department of Energy.
James F. Wood will oversee research and development for the Office of Fossil Energy, directing the carbon sequestration program, the Clean Coal Power Initiative and a $3.4 billion portfolio of stimulus projects.
He was appointed to the National Coal Council by three previous presidential administrations, and was a member of the U.S.-Egypt President's Council, a federal advisory body to Vice President Al Gore.
Mr. Wood earned a bachelor's degree in chemical engineering from Clarkson and has more than 30 years of experience in the power industry.
