Court date is postponed
for school superintendent
PIERREPONT — A court date to resolve a drunken-driving charge against Harrisville Central School's superintendent has been postponed until next month.
St. Lawrence County Sheriff's deputies on Sept. 27 charged Rolf A. Waters, 48, of 418 Meade Road, Canton, with driving while intoxicated. Deputies alleged his blood alcohol content was 0.14 percent when his vehicle was stopped on Butternut Ridge Road. State law establishes 0.08 percent BAC as the threshold for intoxication.
Mr. Waters was arraigned on the charge Oct. 21, according to Town Court records.
A Wednesday court appearance was adjourned until Dec. 20. The district attorney's office did not return a call Thursday seeking an explanation for the delay.
Police: Evans Mills man
had images of child porn
EVANS MILLS — A man stationed at Fort Drum was arrested by state police Thursday on allegations that he had at his residence numerous computer-generated images of young girls engaging in sexual conduct.
Elvins Perez, 27, of 28344 Pheasant Run Road, is charged with first-degree promoting an obscene sexual performance by a child. Upon the recommendation of the district attorney's office, he was released without bail by Pamelia Town Justice Richard C. Baker and awaits grand jury action.
The arrest was made after he was served with a search warrant at his apartment, police said. An investigation was conducted by the state police computer crime unit and Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force, with the assistance of the FBI, police said.
The collection of images involving girls under the age of 17 occurred on the afternoon of April 21, police said.
Black River man charged
with writing bad checks
David W. Smith, 46, of 107 W. Remington St., Black River, already jailed on a felony, was charged by state police Wednesday with two counts of issuing bad checks.
He is accused of bouncing checks totaling $114.20 in March at Clayton Big M, police said. He remains a prisoner in the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building, with bail set at $15,000, awaiting grand jury action on a charge of second-degree forgery.
Also charged with issuing two bad checks is Michelle R. Armstrong, 37, of 834 Morrison St. Watertown police allege that in August she wrote rubber checks amounting to $100 at the General Store, 816 Bradley St.
Pair accused of stealing
woman's purse at tavern
A man and woman were arrested late Thursday after they were accused of stealing a woman's purse in Artie's tavern, 329 High St.
Stephen J. Gilligan, 29, of 194 Cedar St., and Kimberlee M. Trainham, 43, of 245 N. Rutland St., both were charged with fourth-degree grand larceny. Mr. Gilligan remained in custody Friday, having been sent to the Metro-Jefferson Public Safety Building. Watertown City Judge James C. Harberson set bail at $5,000.
Both await grand jury action.
The theft of a purse containing a debit card and $60 in cash belonging to Margaret Kuzebski, Watertown, occurred between 8:15 and 8:35 p.m., police said.
Watertown woman cited
with role in 2008 burglary
Jillian L. McCready Garnsey, 21, of 278 Bellew Ave., was arrested Friday morning by Watertown police on charges linking her to a $3,000 burglary that occurred in September 2008.
Charged with second-degree burglary and third-degree grand larceny, she was released without bail by Watertown City Judge James C. Harberson to await grand jury action.
Police allege that on the night of Sept. 3, 2008, she and another person, who has not been located, entered the apartment of Jennifer A. Bell at 618 Hancock St. They stole cash, a computer, jewelry, basketball cards and numerous DVDs, police allege.
Bombay man is accused
of fleeing checkpoint
MASSENA — Justin D. Rourke, 29, Bombay, was arrested by state police about 5 p.m. Sunday at 22 Highland Road after allegedly fleeing a checkpoint along Route 37.
He was charged with violating probation, disorderly conduct and second-degree harassment.
According to police, Mr. Rourke was riding with Lucas A. Mitchell, 27, Hogansburg, when Mr. Mitchell pulled off the side of the road before the checkpoint. Police said both men took off running and were found in a parking lot.
Mr. Rourke began shouting obscenities during the arrest, police said. He was sent to St. Lawrence County jail, Canton, on $3,000 bail.
Croghan-area teen cited
with having stolen sign
WEST CARTHAGE — With his no-trespassing signs stolen, a town of Champion property owner called state troopers in September to chase hunters off his land, according to state police.
An arrest was made Thursday when police recovered at least one of the stolen signs at a residence in the town of Croghan.
Shayne R. Scott, 18, of 5215 Zecher Road, town of Croghan, faces a charge of fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property. Police allege he possessed a sign stolen from the property of Erin C. Lundy, Lundy Drive, town of Champion.
Bombay resident admits
reckless assault of child
MALONE — A Franklin County man who was jailed in June for allegedly shaking his 5-month-old son pleaded guilty Thursday in Franklin County Court.
David A. Lavertue, 25, of 2162 Route 95, Bombay, was charged in June with two counts each of felony reckless assault of a child and misdemeanor child endangerment. He pleaded guilty to reckless assault of a child, a class D felony.
Sentencing was adjourned until 1:30 p.m. Jan. 28. Mr. Lavertue faces up to seven years in state prison.
Police: man shot arrow
near neighboring home
MOIRA — State police in Malone say archery practice landed a Franklin County man in jail Wednesday.
Robert L. Fisher, 18, of 42 Pine St., was charged with second-degree reckless endangerment. Troopers allege an arrow shot by Mr. Fisher landed near the front door of a neighbor's home. People were inside the home at the time, state police said.
He was arraigned in Westville Town Court and sent to Franklin County jail, Malone, on $1,000 cash or $2,000 bail bond.
Clayton teenager accused
of stealing from lockers
CAPE VINCENT — A 17-year-old Clayton youth is accused of opening two students' lockers at Thousand Islands Central School and stealing cash and an iPod, according to state police.
Daniel J. George is ordered to appear in town of Cape Vincent Court to answer charges of petit larceny and fifth-degree criminal possession of stolen property.
The thefts, one involving $39, occurred Monday, police said.
Watertown teen charged
with possession of drugs
A parental complaint resulted early Friday in a teenage girl being cited with a drug charge, according to Watertown police.
Kailey C. Billings, 16, of 234 Michigan Ave., is summoned to City Court to face a charge of seventh-degree criminal possession of a controlled substance. Police said another person's prescription bottles, containing a Hydrocodone pill and two Pentazocine pills, were found in her bedroom.
Pair accused of dumping
bags of trash along road
DEPEYSTER — State police have charged two people for allegedly dumping 17 bags of trash and a child's desk illegally.
Joshua R. LaRock, 28, of 513 New York Ave., Ogdensburg, and Scott T. Marino, 18, of 693 East Road, Heuvelton, were arrested around 8 p.m. Thursday at their homes and charged with violating environmental conservation law.
Police found the trash Sunday along East Road in DePeyster, police said.
Police: Watertown man
set another's coat ablaze
A city man was charged early Thursday with fifth-degree arson after he set a coat on fire, Watertown police alleged.
Dylan C. Shaw, 22, of 507 Hamlin St., Apt. 2, torched a coat belonging to Kyle A. Williams, 241 Goodale St., Apt. 1, shortly before 11:50 p.m. Wednesday in the driveway at 507 Hamlin St., police said.
He faces prosecution on the misdemeanor charge in City Court.
Watertown woman cited
with stealing at drugstore
Angela M. O'Riley, 33, of 673 Pamelia Ave., is summoned to City Court after being accused of shoplifting Wednesday night at Rite Aid, 317 Arsenal St.
She is cited with petit larceny in the alleged theft of merchandise totaling $127.37 in value, police said.
