Emily Sauter finished 51st of 64 competitors in the 50-yard freestyle at the girls state championship preliminaries Friday at Webster Schroeder High School.

The Carthage senior clocked a time of 25.60 seconds, while freshman Cari Stankaitis of Honeoye Falls Lima swam the distance in 24.23 to capture the preliminary round.

Sauter and two divers from Holland Patent, Sylvia Ross and Shelby Maldonado, were the only Frontier League athletes to qualify for the state meet.
