STAR LAKE — The Adirondack Park Agency approved reclassification Nov. 13 of 64 privately owned acres in the town of Fine to make it easier to develop.
"This was the first time the park agency has initiated an amendment," APA spokesman Keith P. McKeever said.
The park agency's recommendation came after Fine Supervisor Mark C. Hall, the inaugural speaker at the APA's community spotlight series in March, spoke about his town and the needs of Clifton-Fine Hospital. The speakers series gives local elected officials a chance to tell the APA about their communities.
APA staff reviewed property around the hospital and determined it was compatible with greater density use so could be zoned less restrictively. The change will be from resource management to low intensity use.
The hospital, which might want to expand in the future, owns about 14 acres of the land in question. The remainder of the land is contiguous.
