Parham, St. Lawrence sink Brockport in tourney

ROCHESTER — Brittany Parham sank four big free throws to lead the St. Lawrence University women's basketball team to a 51-50 victory over SUNY Brockport in a semifinal of the Rochester Institute of Technology Tournament on Saturday.

The Saints (2-0) will play RIT in the championship game at 2 p.m. today.

Parham made two free throws with 3 minutes, 7 seconds left to tie the game 49-49. She hit two more with 1:22 left to give the Saints the lead for good. Parham finished with 12 points to lead the Saints and Casey Capello added 11.

Whitney Smith scored 16 points to lead SUNY Brockport (0-2).

NEUMANN 75, CLARKSON 52

Cecily Scavicchio scored 15 points for Neumann (1-2) in a win over the Golden Knights in the consolation game of the Lebanon Valley Tip-Off Tournament in Anneville, Pa.

Brittany Whetts provided 13 points with 13 rebounds, and Katie Young grabbed 17 rebounds for Neumann.

Carey Turner paced the Golden Knights (0-2) with 16 points and 10 rebounds, and Michelle Reddinger contributed 10 points.

NAZARETH 56, SUNY POTSDAM 48

Brittany Wilson scored 21 points and grabbed nine rebounds for Nazareth (3-0) in a nonconference win over the Bears in Rochester.

Rachel Graf scored 13 points and Aimee Kellicutt added 12 for SUNY Potsdam (1-2). Kellicutt also grabbed nine rebounds.

KEUKA 63, SUNY CANTON 38

Brittany Shrock led the Storm (1-2) with 19 points in a nonconference win over SUNY Canton in Keuka Park.

Julie Vander Wiel, Shannon LaFave and Heather Lottie each scored eight points for the Kangaroos (1-3).

ALFRED ST. 85, JEFFERSON CC 52

Danielle Conway scored 22 points and grabbed 11 rebounds to lead the host team to a first-round win at the Alfred State Tournament.

Brittany Brooks and Lynn Coastes added 14 points apiece for Alfred (6-1), which led 40-25 at halftime.

Jenny Jones paced JCC (2-5) with 15 points and also had seven rebounds and four steals. Nicole Perry contributed 13 points and Dana Stenhouse 12.

MEN'S BASKETBALL

CLARKSON 83, SUNY POTSDAM 62

Elson Pickering's 19 points led the Golden Knights (3-0) to a comfortable win over village rival SUNY Potsdam in a nonconference game at Clarkson. The Golden Knights built a 52-19 lead by halftime.

Felix Llanos scored 18 points and Tyler Barron added 11 for Clarkson.

Anthony Williams scored 14 points for the Bears (0-2), while Curtis Pearce scored 12 and Olando Minott added 10.

ST. LAWRENCE 71,

NEW YORK CITY TECH 41

Nick Meunier scored 15 points as the Saints (1-2) beat New York Tech in the consolation game of the Franklin & Marshall Tournament in Lancaster, Pa.

Andy Hoercher added 13 points, and Terry Parham tossed in 10 for SLU.

Gabriel Davis led New York Tech (0-4) with 16 points.

KEYSTONE 99, SUNY CANTON 56

Tercel Taylor and Kenneth Hardnett each scored 21 points to send Keystone College (1-2) over the Kangaroos in the consolation game of the Hamilton Tournament in Clinton.

Ryne Luce scored 14 points, and Troy Robinson added 10 for Keystone.

Tony Parker led SUNY Canton (1-5) with 19 points, and Tony Valentin added 14.

SWIMMING

CLARKSON, POTSDAM SECOND

Host SUNY Potsdam finished second in the women's competition and Clarkson took second in the men's at the North Country Invitational, which began Friday and ended Saturday.

SUNY Oneonta won the women's title with 436 points and claimed the men's title with 466. Clarkson's women finished in third place.

Liz Ringer won the 100 butterfly for SUNY Potsdam and Nathan LaRowe won the 3-meter dive for the men's team. Dan Callahan won the 50 and 100 freestyles for the Bears.

SUNY Potsdam's men also won the 200 freestyle relay.
