BOSTON — The first 56 minutes of Saturday's ECAC Hockey game against Harvard were not very productive for the Clarkson University men's team.
But the Golden Knights scored twice in the final four minutes, on goals 32 seconds apart, to gain a 2-2 tie with Harvard at the Bright Hockey Center.
Before Clarkson (4-8-1 overall, 1-4-1 conference) scored its first goal, it had been outshot 38-14 by Harvard.
"We challenged them after the second period," Clarkson coach George Roll said of his team. "They came out and played hard in the third. That game could have been over after two periods. We shortened the bench up with the guys who were competing and the momentum started to change. I give our guys credit. We didn't quit. We were lucky to get the point, but on the other hand we didn't give up in the third."
Bryan Rufenach started Clarkson's rally with a rebound goal at 16 minutes, 9 seconds of the third period. Scott Freeman assisted on the score.
Matt Beca scored on another rebound at 16:41 to give Clarkson the tie. Tim Marks had the initial shot and was credited with an assist.
The Golden Knights had one more good chance to score when Harvard's Chris Huxley was called for interference at 17:24 of the third period.
Harvard (1-4-2) played with a man advantage in overtime as Clarkson's Marks was called for slashing just 63 seconds in while attempting to put in a rebound of a shot from Beca as Harvard goalie Ryan Carroll attempted to cover the loose puck.
For a second straight night, the stellar play of goalie Paul Karpowich helped Clarkson earn points in the conference standings. Karpowich survived an onslaught of shots early in the game as Harvard outshot Clarkson 16-3 in the first period and 13-4 in the second.
He finished with 41 saves on 43 shots for a .953 save percentage.
"That's the guy we need if we are going to have success this year," Roll said. "I thought he was absolutely outstanding, not only in saves, but the rebound control. He was a different goaltender this weekend."
Harvard took advantage of a Clarkson miscue to score the first goal of the game as freshman Louis Leblanc, who was selected by the Montreal Canadiens with the 18th overall pick in the NHL draft, stole the puck from a Clarkson player behind the net and scored at 6:04 of the first period.
The Crimson extended the lead to 2-0 at 4:03 of the second period with a power-play goal from Marshall Everson, who poked in a rebound while positioned beside the Clarkson net.
SUNY POTSDAM 4, BUFFALO STATE 2
Todd Hosmer and Sy Nutkevitch scored second-period goals to give SUNY Potsdam a win over the Bengals (1-7-1, 1-6) in a SUNYAC game in Buffalo.
The Bears (3-4) led 2-0 after goals from Mike Foy and Connor Treacy in the first period, but Buffalo State answered with goals from Mike Luzarraga and Ryan Ramage to tie the score early in the second period.
JOHN CARROLL 4,
SUNY CANTON 3 (OT)

Corey Frizell scored two goals to lead SUNY Canton, and Erik Cook added another goal for the Kangaroos.
