Tragedy of hunger

"Hunger is the most cruel and concrete sign of poverty. Opulence and waste are no longer acceptable when the tragedy of hunger is assuming ever greater proportions." — Pope Benedict XVI commenting after 60 heads of state and dozens of ministers at a food summit in Rome rejected a U.N. appeal to pledge billions of dollars annually to help farmers in poor countries.
