Anti-wind column full of suppositions

The recent column "giving away the farm" by Perry White contains many inaccuracies and suppositions almost too numerous to count.

To presuppose that the developer would even consider this project if it were fully taxed shows a real lack of understanding of new business development as to render the writer completely out of touch with reality. To attempt to criticize the developer for wanting to take advantage of federal, state and local tax incentives, none of which were created by the developer, to bring this project to our area flies in the face of reason. Do you criticize the business ventures that take full advantage of the Empire Zone tax benefits?

Also, you suggest that this is not an industry we are courting to come here. Perhaps you could enlighten your readers by providing a list of the industries we are courting and recount your success of late.

You further state that we're not competing for a site in central Ohio for the wind farm. I would think that the ability to read the minds of potential developers as to what they may or may not be thinking is a talent reserved for gypsy fortune tellers, not newspaper editors.

The reality is that we could lose this project and the $40 million in payment-in-lieu-taxes it promises to bring to our area. I hope you can take comfort in your efforts to defeat this project that would benefit hundreds of north country taxpayers.

It's not something that I could live with.
