CHESTNUT HILL, Mass. — The Boston College men's hockey team snapped a 10-game losing streak to Clarkson by defeating the Golden Knights 6-5 in a nonconference game at the Conte Forum on Friday.

The Eagles (6-3-2 overall) used a strong special teams showing to earn the win, scoring on 4 of 9 power-play opportunities and surviving a late comeback attempt by Clarkson.

"In the first period we were a little sluggish, but the rest of the game we battled hard and got the puck to the net," said Clarkson coach George Roll. "They are certainly very good on the power play and that was a difference. The big difference was the five-on-threes."

Clarkson (4-9-1) was outshot 16-3 in the first period and gave the Eagles four power-play opportunities. Boston College's first goal came shortly after Clarkson was called for having too many men on the ice at 4 minutes, 44 seconds of the opening period.

Cam Atkinson scored his fourth goal of the season for the Eagles at 5:33 on a wrist shot from the point that deflected off the skate of Clarkson defenseman Nik Pokulok.

The Golden Knights responded just 62 seconds later when defenseman Mark Borowiecki scored on his own rebound to tie the game. It was his fourth goal of the season, and Matt Beca picked up an assist.

But Clarkson was called for two penalties in just 38 seconds midway through the opening period, giving Boston College another chance to score. Paul Carey scored at 10:30, while the Eagles had a two-man advantage to help Boston College end the period with a 2-1 lead.

Clarkson tied the game 2-2 with a wrap-around goal from Adam Pawlick at 4:16 of the second period, with Corey Tamblyn and Scott Freeman assisting.

But the Eagles responded quickly, regaining the lead just 32 seconds later with a goal from Barry Almeida on a rebound of a shot from Matt Lombardi.

Clarkson's Tim Marks was called for a tripping penalty 32 seconds after that goal, and 27 seconds after that, the Eagles extended their lead to 4-2 with a goal from Ben Smith.

Beca got the Golden Knights back within a goal with a power-play goal at 11:53 on a wrist shot that went over the blocker of Boston College goalie John Muse. Freeman picked up another assist on the tally.

The Eagles dashed Clarkson's hopes of keeping the score close heading into the final period when Chris Kreider extended Boston College's lead to 5-3 with a goal with just 22 seconds remaining in the second period.

Boston College scored its second power-play goal of the game with a two-man advantage when Carl Sneep beat Clarkson goalie Paul Karpowich with a one-timer off a pass from Brian Dumoulin at 3:39 of the third. The Eagles had the two-man advantage after Borowiecki was called for slashing at 2:12, and Nik Pokulok was called for interference at 3:00.

Clarkson scored twice late in the third period to cut Boston College's lead to one. Borowiecki scored his second goal of the game, with assists going to Beca and Freeman. While the teams were playing four-on-four, freshman defenseman Andrew Himelson scored his first career goal during a power-play at 16:35.

SUNY POTSDAM 6, UTICA 3

Fraser Smith scored two goals and assisted on another to lead SUNY Potsdam past the Pioneers (3-3-1) in a nonconference game in Utica.

Colin MacLennan added one goal and one assist for the Bears (5-4). Nick Leigh, Kevin MacLellan and Spencer Noyes also scored for SUNY Potsdam.

Trevor O'Neill finished with 28 saves for the Bears, who tallied a pair of goals in each period.

Matt Fitzgibbons, Evan Chlanda and Russell Anderson scored for Utica.

MINNESOTA 4, CLARKSON 0

Noora Raty made 20 saves to guide the second-ranked Golden Gophers past the No. 3 Golden Knights in a nonconference matchup in Minneapolis.

Minnesota (12-2-1) scored three times in the third period to put Clarkson (12-3-1) away.

After an even opening frame, Terra Rasmussen supplied her sixth goal of the season midway through the second period as the Golden Gophers went ahead.

Minnesota held a distinct shot advantage through two periods, owning a 29-13 edge on Clarkson. The Golden Gophers didn't come alive, however, until the final frame.

Kelly Seeler started the run with an even-strength goal. Brittany Francis responded with a power-play tally minutes later, and Emily West tallied her 10th goal of the year to lock up the victory.

The Golden Gophers scored their three goals in the third period in less than five minutes. Sarah Erickson paced the offense with two assists.

The Golden Knights were stifled offensively and totaled just 20 shots on goal. Clarkson came up empty on six power-play chances.

Since winning seven straight games, Clarkson has lost two of its last three.
