Angelo B. Piazza, 83, formerly of Watertown, New York, passed on Nov. 27th at the Genesis Healthcare Center in Mooresville, NC.
Born July 19, 1926, in Watertown, son of Benjamin and Anna Tubolino Piazza, he was raised in Sackets Harbor, New York, and attended Sackets Harbor High School. Following school, he enlisted in the Army, serving with the 11th Airborne Division during World War II, and participated in the U.S. occupation of Japan, parachuting into Sapporo. He also was a member of the 11th Airborne band. Upon his honorable discharge, he returned to Watertown.
He married Gloria Wilson on Sept. 19, 1949, at Our Lady of the Sacred Heart Church, Rev. Benoit Dostie officiating. The couple then resided in Gouverneur, New York, where they established the Piazza Fruit Market. They moved to Watertown in 1955, where Mr. Piazza founded and operated Piazza Construction, Inc., from 1972 until he retired in 2002.
Mrs. Piazza owned and operated the Cardinal Shoppe from 1982 until 1995. Upon their retirement the couple moved to North Carolina.
Mr. Piazza was a communicant of St. Patrick's Church, a member of the Watertown Civic Band, the Gouverneur American Legion Band, and he created his own band in Sackets Harbor.
He is survived by his wife, Gloria F. Piazza, Troutman, NC; a son, Benjamin W. Piazza, Greenville, SC; six daughters: Nancy L. Piazza, Voorheesville, NY; Mrs. Patricia J. (Michael) Hennegan, Watertown, NY; Mrs. Joan A. (Gregory) Smith, Watertown, NY; Gail M. Piazza, Auburn, NY; Penny E. (Daniel), Long Meadow, MA; Julie P. ( Sean) Kelly, Watertown, NY; six sisters: Mrs. Anna (the late Joseph) Antonelli, Watertown, NY; Mrs. Mary (Al) Hudson, TX; Mrs. Virginia (Richard) Walsh, MI; Mrs. Joann (Joseph) Cronan, CA; Mrs. Lucretia Adair, Watertown, NY; Mrs. Esther (Joseph) Daly, FL; 15 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Mr. Piazza is predeceased by three brothers: James, Anthony and Dominick Piazza.
Calling hours will be held from 2-4 p.m. and 7-9 p.m. on Monday, Nov. 30 at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home in Watertown.
A prayer service will be held at 12:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Dec. 1, at the Hart & Bruce Funeral Home, to be followed by a funeral mass at St. Patrick's Catholic Church at 1 p.m., with Rev. Steven Murray officiating. Burial will be at the Glenwood Cemetery.
