Fort Drum soldier shot, killed in Providence, R.I.

A Fort Drum soldier was killed in a shooting incident Sunday in Providence, R.I.

Pvt. David E. Thomas, 22, Boston, was shot and killed about 2:30 a.m. while in a vehicle with two other men in front of the J. Joseph Garrahy Judicial Complex, according to the Providence Journal. One of the other men also died, but details of the shooting were not disclosed.

His death is being investigated by the Providence Police Department, with the cooperation of Fort Drum officials.

Pvt. Thomas joined the Army in December 2008 and arrived at Fort Drum in 2009. He served as a multi-channel transmission systems operator-maintainer with the 10th Mountain Division's Headquarters and Headquarters Battalion.
