A band of lake effect snow is stubbornly sitting across the central Tug Hill region today, dropping two to three inches per hour in the most southern parts of Jefferson County and the southern half of Lewis County.

A no unnecessary travel advisory remains in effect for Lewis County, as windy conditions continue to create blizzard-like conditions for motorists.

Spotters for the National Weather Service have reported 14.5 inches of total accumulation in Carthage, 12 inches in Harrisville, 11 inches in Watertown and 8.1 inches in Port Leyden. Meteorologists say the southern half of Jefferson and most of Lewis County will have up to two feet on the ground by the end of today and up to four feet by Saturday afternoon.

The weather caused most Lewis County schools to close today, with many Jefferson County schools on delay or closed. St. Lawrence County schools are open.

The Girl Scouts of NYPenn Pathways closed their Watertown office. A Saturday performance by Randy Simpson at The Way Inn Christian Music Center, Evans Mills, has also been postponed. No make-up date has been announced.
