Janet M. Brasie, 71, Gouverneur

GOUVERNEUR — Janet M. Brasie, 71, passed away Thursday, December 10, 2009 at E.J. Noble Hospital, Gouverneur.

Janet was born August 11, 1938 in Ogdensburg, the daughter of James H. and Alice Kane Phippins.

Janet attended Gouverneur schools and had been employed at Groveton Paper Co., Natural Dam. She and her husband owned and operated Brasie’s Grocery store in Belleville many years. Janet was also employed at Edwards Central School, retiring in 1979.

She married Keith L. Brasie on November 20, 1955 at St. James Church, Gouverneur with Msg. James T. Lyng officiating. Mr. Brasie passed away July 20, 2002.

Mrs. Brasie enjoyed making ceramics and crafts, and assisting in fundraisers at the Kinney Nursing Home where she lived.

Janet is survived by her daughter Melody and Ritchie Brunet of Hermon, her son Keith Michael Brasie of Watertown, three grandchildren Cortney Brunet Sharlow, Dustin Brunet, and Shain Brunet, two great grandchildren Brandon Eggleston and Caiden Burns, and a brother James C. Phippins of Arizona.

Calling hours are Monday, December 14, from 10-11:30 am with a funeral service at 11:30 am at the Green Funeral Home, Gouverneur with Fr. Stephen Rocker, pastor of St. James Church officiating and burial in E. Riverside Cemetery, Gouverneur.
