An allegedly intoxicated man broke into a storage building early Monday, stole a 1966 Oldsmobile Toronado, drove it a short distance and wrecked it, according to state police.
Frank J. Powless, 23, of 5002 N. Jefferson St., Pulaski, was arrested on third-degree counts of burglary and grand larceny and a charge of driving while intoxicated. He was sent without bail to Oswego County jail, Oswego.
Police said the theft occurred at Salmon Storage and U-Haul, Route 13, town of Richland, owned by prominent businessman Kevin M. Fear. The vintage car, which was demolished when it struck a utility pole, also belongs to Mr. Fear, police said.
Mr. Powless's breath test result was not provided. Police said he was arrested on Towsley Road in the town of Albion.
A motorist had given a ride to a man he found walking along a road, became suspicious and notified police after dropping off the man, alleged to be Mr. Powless.
The following also were charged with DWI and related offenses:
■ Zachery D. Leach, 21, West Leyden, was charged by state police with felony DWI and failure to use a designated lane after he got stuck in a snowbank at 11 p.m. Saturday on Osceola Road in the town of Lewis.
He allegedly had a blood alcohol content of 0.17 percent. Under state law, a BAC of 0.08 percent or more constitutes intoxication.
The felony charge stems from a prior DWI conviction within the past 10 years.
■ Robert N. Roshia II, 31, of 230 N. Meadow St., also was charged by Watertown police with failure to keep right, speed not reasonable or prudent, unlawful possession of marijuana and driving with a suspended registration at 12:09 a.m. Sunday in the 200 block of North Hamilton Street. He allegedly refused to submit to a Breathalyzer test.
■ Melissa A. Rogers, 32, of 53 Liberty St., Adams, was charged by Jefferson County sheriff's deputies at 2:30 a.m. Sunday at her residence, and additionally was cited with failure to keep right and crossing hazard markings.
She tested at 0.11 percent BAC, according to the sheriff's office.
■ Darwin C. Forte, 29, Castorland, initially was cited with failure to dim headlights after being halted about 12:15 a.m. Sunday on Route 126 in the town of Champion, according to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Department. His BAC was 0.13 percent, deputies said.
■ Leah T. Tarbell, 33, of 117 Raquette Point Road, Hogansburg, was arrested by state police at 3:30 a.m. Saturday following an inspection at the Massena port of entry. Police said her BAC was 0.17 percent.
■ Sammy J. Sherman, 51, Norfolk, was charged by state police after a traffic stop at 1 a.m. Sunday at County Route 58 and Route 42 in the town of Norfolk. He had a BAC of 0.11 percent, police said.
■ John A. Bigtree, 22, Hogansburg, was charged by state police after a traffic stop at 2:45 a.m. Sunday on Route 37 in the town of Massena. He allegedly had a BAC of 0.14 percent.
■ Perry A. Crouch, 35, Richland, was charged by state police at 12:15 a.m. Sunday at county routes 2 and 48 in the town of Richland. He allegedly had a BAC of 0.14 percent.
■ David R. Agugliaro, 36, Lacona, was charged by state police at 2:48 a.m. Sunday on Prospect Street in Sandy Creek. His test reading was 0.14 percent BAC, police said.
