Watertown High School's Select Choir gave a group of soldiers a taste of home and spread some holiday cheer with a performance from the musical “White Christmas” on Wednesday.

The choir put on several stage performances of “White Christmas” last week, and gave a special performance for the “Songs for Troops” program, which soldiers saw via a live Internet video feed. The choir performed a 10-minute medley of three songs that included a tap dance routine.

“Songs for Troops” performances have been broadcast to troops overseas in past years, but this was the first year that a Watertown High School group participated in the event. Secretary of the Army and former Congressman for the 23rd Congressional District John M. McHugh, a Watertown High School graduate and a Watertown High vocal music alumnus, invited his alma mater to participate, said Watertown High School vocal music instructor Russell J. Faunce.

Watertown Daily Times staff writers Jude Seymour and Jamie Munks were at Watertown High School for the “Songs for Troops” performance, and they filed this video.
